A night in a coffee shop

Tonight for discipleship the six of us women piled into my car and took a trip to a coffee house. What a fun night! As we sipped on our hot tea or coffee (in my case hot chocolate yum!!!) we discussed two of God's transferable attributes. We discussed his patience and that he is just. Thank goodness he is patient with us because his patience means salvation for us (2 Peter 3:15). As far as his justice goes, justice means that all of us will be going to hell, but mercy is that God pulls us out. Thank goodness for mercy right?! After we wrote the things we are thankful for on a piece of fun scrapbook paper for each of the girls. I love these girls so much and am so blessed to have them in my life. On the drive home we prayed over each other. It was such a great night of fellowship and prayer. I thank God everyday for the fellowship I get from these amazing women. I am a little sad that next week we won't have discipleship (because of Thanksgiving break). What am I going to do away from them for a week?!

Blessings :D

"Last year Creed asked me how to set up a blog. Wanting to protect the world from being exposed to Creed's brain, I opened up a Word document on his computer and put an address at the top. I've read some of it. Even for the intranet, it's... pretty shocking." Ryan Howard. So this is what I think of when I hear the word "blog" (obviously I'm a pretty big Office fan). But I thought I would give it a try.

Basically I am a college junior on a small Methodist campus in nowhere Missouri. I am one of two religion and church leadership majors on campus.... Yeah how exciting. So despite taking 17 credit hours, having a job, and being involved in the Navigators (a worldwide ministry group, aka Navs) I still find myself with free time, so why not blog? My blog isn't going to be on a specific topic or anything, it will just be my thoughts, maybe I should have made the address www.mollythoughts.gov.www/mollythoughts... that's another Office reference for those of you who aren't familiar with the show.

Lately I've been reading the book of Ecclesiastes (in the Bible). Many people find it very doom and gloom seeing as Solomon talks about how everything is meaningless. In reading this book I can see how that would be the initial outlook. However, it is not doom and gloom, in my opinion. Yes everything is meaningless... without God. Apart from God what meaning do our lives have? We were created (by God) for his glory. "'Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the eartheveryone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.'" Isaiah 43:6-7. It clearly states that God created us for his glory. So what are we doing with our lives? We chase after things and knowledge but without God, those things are meaningless, and our lives are being wasted by not fulfilling our purpose. But when we seek God, not only are we doing what we were created to do, but also we experience a complete joy in him. I think this is what Solomon is getting at throughout the book of Ecclesiastes. Life only has meaning when we are fulfilling our purpose by glorifying God.

God is so amazing. But the only way one can understand that is by getting to know him. My discipleship group (four other girls and I learning how to become better followers, or disciples, of Christ from one of the Navs leaders Amanda) is learning about who God is and who we should be because of who he is. Last week we discussed God's nontransferable attributes (tomorrow we are discussing his transferable attributes). These include: sovereignty, eternalness, omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (everywhere), omnipotent (all-powerful), and immutable (never changing). We discussed how God is all of these things at once and we could never be any of them. Then we discerned the areas of our lives that could be changed by having a proper understanding of each of these attributes. I would challenge everyone to do a deep intensive study on these six attributes, you will be amazed by how amazing God is. Anyway, each of us were given an attribute that we are to meditate on in the next 2 weeks. My attribute is Omniscient.

God is all-knowing. How comforting! God knows your past, present, and future. He knows the mistakes you have made ("for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23) and he knows the mistakes you have yet to make, yet he died to save you anyway. Also, since he knows everything there is no reason to hide from him. If you have done something wrong, confess! He knows it anyway and confessing will make you feel better and he will forgive you. He knows everything about you, he knows what you like and what you don't, most importantly he knows what is best for you and he has control. God takes care of his creation and will take care of you so you have no need to worry. I have been amazed in all the places that I have seen this attribute of God in my life. Just reading Ecclesiastes I have seen it everywhere. "Whatever wisdom may be, it is far off and most profound -- who can discover it?" Ecclesiastes 7:24. We cannot find wisdom. However, because God is omniscient, he can grant it to us. Ask for the Lord to grant you wisdom this week. Also, look for the ways that God is omniscient (or any/all of his other attributes) this week. I am sure you will be amazed, I know I am.

For now, I am going to get some McDonald's for dinner (typical college student right?) and babysit the Navs leaders' adorable little daughter with my amazing roommate (who turns 21 tomorrow woohoo!).

God bless.
